Being Active in our Community
Active Living Made Easy
When people think about healthy living, they often imagine strict workout routines and packed gym schedules. But in our home city of Minneapolis, staying active feels less like exercise and more like enjoying life.
From scenic lakes and hiking trails to outdoor yoga, farmers markets, mountain biking, and free live music, Minneapolis makes it incredibly easy to move your body, connect with the community, and enjoy the outdoors year-round.
Start Your Day with a Walk Around the Lakes
One of the greatest assets is the Twin Cities’ world-class park system. The Chain of Lakes offers miles of paved and natural trails perfect for walking, jogging, biking, or simply enjoying the scenery.
Some local favorites include Lake Harriet, Bde Maka Ska, Lake of the Isles, Cedar Lake, Bush Lake and more. Whether you're training for a race or taking a leisurely evening stroll, the lakes provide beautiful views and an easy way to add movement to your day.

Explore Hiking and Nature Trails
For those looking to get off the pavement, Minneapolis offers surprisingly diverse hiking opportunities.
Top spots include the wooded trails and rolling terrain of Theodore Wirth Park,Minnehaha Regional Park, home to the iconic Minnehaha Falls, and Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden— a hidden gem featuring native plants, walking paths, and peaceful natural surroundings.
Mountain Biking in the City? Absolutely.
Minneapolis is one of the few major cities where you can find legitimate mountain biking trails just minutes from downtown. Here is a link to MORC - Minnesota Off Road Cyclists. This is the brains and the brawn behind many of our local trails. From Theodore Wirth to Braemar, the Metro Area is full of biking options for any cyclist.

Free Yoga with a Lake View
Imagine starting your morning with yoga overlooking the water as the sun rises. Each summer, Lake Harriet hosts free community yoga classes, right near the Bandshell. It's one of the most beloved wellness traditions in Minneapolis and attracts everyone from beginners to experienced yogis.

Free Live Music, All Summer Long
One of the best parts about summer in Minneapolis is that entertainment and movement naturally go hand in hand. The Lake Harriet Bandshell hosts dozens of free concerts throughout the summer as part of the Minneapolis Music in the Parks program. Pack a picnic, bike to the lake, spread out a blanket, and enjoy live music with friends and family.
The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board schedules hundreds of free concerts throughout the city every summer, making it easy to combine outdoor recreation with community events.

Visit Local Farmers Markets
Healthy living isn't just about exercise. It's also about access to fresh, local food. Minneapolis is home to some of the best farmers markets in the Midwest. Minneapolis Farmers Market, Mill City Farmers Market, and more are all amazing options for local vendors and fresh produce.
Spend a Saturday morning exploring and getting your steps in while supporting local organizations and businesses.
Active Living Doesn't Have to Feel Like Exercise
One of the biggest reasons people love Minneapolis is that healthy living happens naturally.
Bike around the lakes, hike wooded trails, or practice yoga outdoors. Attend free concerts, shop local farmers markets, explore parks with family and friends, discover new neighborhoods on foot — the list goes on!
The city's incredible parks, trails, lakes, and community events create endless opportunities to stay active without feeling like you're following a workout plan. In our community, movement becomes part of your lifestyle — and that's often the most sustainable path to long-term wellness.
