Ear Infections
Normal function of the eustachian tube allows drainage of secretions produced by the middle ear and equalizes pressure between the ear and outside environment. When function is impaired, the ear canal does not drain properly, and children are more susceptible to infection. Common symptoms are pulling at ears, redness, fever and irritability. These symptoms are also common with allergies, colds, upper respiratory infections and teething due to increased inflammation and mucus production.
Here are some things that you can do:
- Natural ear drops, containing garlic, mullein and olive oil.
- Massage head and neck, stroking from behind the ear to the collarbone.
- Tea tree oil massaged into the mastoid process (bump on head behind the ear)
- Increase vitamin C, zinc, and echinacea — taken by mother if breastfeeding or in children's dose.
- Nursing mothers should eliminate dairy, sugar and high fructose corn syrup (specific food testing can be done by your chiropractor).
- Eliminate (or change formula) dairy, sugar and high fructose corn syrup.
- Chiropractic and cranial adjustments help restore proper function of the ear canal and boost your child's immune system.
